For contractors, engineering firms, IT services and anyone who sells a project rather than a product. The project is the unit that earns or loses money, so it is the unit the system tracks.

Structure

Phases, tasks and lines, from a template or from scratch.

Phases and tasks: A project has phases, each with tasks. Each task has an owner, dates and a status.
Project lines: The material, services and work planned for the project, with quantities and prices. The plan is the budget.
Templates: A project type carries its standard phases and tasks. A new project starts from the type and is adjusted.

Money

Budget against actual, while the project runs.

What posts to the project: Material issued from stock, contractor bills, purchase orders, time and expenses booked by staff. Each carries the project.
Budget, actual, difference: The report shows budget, actual and the difference by line, today. Not after the project closes.
Time and expense: Staff book hours and expenses against tasks. Approved lines post to the project cost, and can be billed.

Billing and tax

Milestones invoiced, TDS deducted.

Milestone billing: A contract with a schedule: an amount at each milestone or date. Each line becomes an invoice when it falls due.
GST on the invoice: CGST, SGST and IGST follow the place of supply. The e-Invoice with IRN comes from the invoice itself.
TDS on contractor bills: Subcontractor bills carry TDS at the rate for that vendor, on the bill or on the payment.
Capital projects: A project that builds an asset moves its cost to the asset register when it closes.

Who books what

The site, the purchase desk, the staff, accounts. One project code each.

The site: Material is issued from the store to the project. The issue carries the project code, so the material cost is on the project the same day.
Purchase: Every order for the project carries its code. Placed orders show as commitments against the budget before the bill arrives.
Staff: Hours and expenses are booked against tasks. A timesheet report shows who worked on what, and what it cost.
Accounts: Contractor bills are posted to the project with TDS deducted. Milestone invoices are raised from the contract schedule.
