Most software called free ERP is a trial, a seat-capped edition, or a hosted plan you cannot leave. Here is where Onfinity stands on each.

How many users?No limit, and no per-seat charge. Put the whole company on it.

For how long?No expiry. It is a licence, not a trial that stops working in the second month.

Where does it run?Your server or your cloud, with PostgreSQL or Oracle underneath. Nobody else holds the database.

Do you get the source?All of Pluto. Read it, change it, compile it, ship it.

The licence

Eclipse Public Licence, and what it lets you do

EPL is the business-friendly end of the open source range. The part that matters commercially: what you build on top stays yours.

Change the code: Fork it, patch it, compile your own build and run that. Nothing phones home and nothing needs approval.
Build and sell on top: Extensions, industry verticals and country localisations you write are yours. EPL does not oblige you to publish their source.
Keep your data: It is your database on your infrastructure. There is no export to request and no notice period to serve.
What is not open source: Pluto is, all of it. Nova, the supported edition, gives source access on its open source modules only. Worth knowing before you plan around it rather than after.

What is underneath

Written in C#, and it describes itself

Two things separate this from the rest of the open source shelf, and both matter more the longer you run it.

C# on .NETIf the people who would look after it already work in the Microsoft stack, this is a codebase they can read on day one instead of a language they have to take on.

An application dictionaryEvery window, field, tab and rule is a record the software reads while it runs. Adding to the system means adding records, not branching the source.

So upgrades still arriveThe usual cost of an open source ERP is the fork you end up maintaining. Work held in the dictionary is read by the next release instead of merged into it.
